Pastor Ken Invites You To Hear "The Rest of the Message"

Here's our text for Sunday, July 1, 2007:

Matthew 5: 4-5

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."

"The Blessings - Meek Mourners"

How will God offer a comforting blessing to a person in sorrow? And just what kind of mourning is Jesus really talking about?

Why would God want to bless some milk toast loser meek/weak person anyway? He doesn't want us to be doormats does He?

This weekend we'll delve a bit deeper than perhaps you ever have into the wonderful truth of the Beatitudes, often called Christ's "Sermon on the Mount," though He surely offered many messages from hillsides.

One truth about the Bible is that God created it to clarify, not muddy, what He wants us to know about Him and how we are to respond to Him with our lives. The obvious second truth is that God's Word was shared originally in languages most of us no longer regularly use and it was written to a vastly different audience; one made up mostly of either nomads, farmers, or poor city dwellers of a time not very different than our own but certainly still different.

As we explore God's will for us in these two brief and highly impactful verses we'll be touching on the core understanding of God's plan. Meekness in the original Greek in which it was written was PRAUS, which may be translated , " Quiet Strength". And are the mourners Jesus is speaking of mourning the deaths of loved ones, or the loss of their own innocence...the reality of their own sin.

God calls us to be blessed. He WANTS us to live as though we are blessed. DON'T miss the blessing!

We'll be looking for you this weekend to receive it!

Come join us on Sunday for "The Rest of the Message!"

In the everlasting love of Jesus!
