When I was preparing my notes for last Monday night's Celebration Team meeting, so that I could share what I thought God was wanting me to say to Hope Church this week, the core verse, the center of the message, I chose was 37. And the theme word of the sermon was to be WATCH.
As sometimes happens, however, God moved one of our team members, Bob Simcox this time, to redirect my thoughts, and those of the whole team, to verse 34. The theme became SERVE and the context was, " Jesus said everyone should be ready for His second coming, and we best do that by knowing what tasks we are expected to be carrying out for Him while we wait.
Acts 1: 6-11 came to mind. The disciples have just seen Jesus ascend to Heaven and two guys dressed in white, (Angels, not hospital orderlies), appears and asks them, (my paraphrase ), " What 'ya all doin' standin' around in the field with your faces in the clouds?! Get back to Jerusalem and get to work for Jesus!"
So many times we, as Joanne Hartman shared in both services, get so "Heavenly minded that we're no earthly good." In other words, we are so focused on the glory, wonder, mystery and drama of being in relationship with the Lord of all Creation that we forget He wants us to keep our hands busy while we talk to Him.
When I was young I had a hard time talking and working at the same time. Over time, and through much parental "discipline" in this area I learned that if I loved to talk, and wanted to survive my childhood, I'd have to learn to work and talk at the same time.
Isn't it interesting how what you learn in childhood can be such a benefit in your elder years!
God wants me to be in conversation with Him, as the Bible says, "continuously." AND He wants me to be at work for Him in all that I do constantly.
May you be blessed with His presence always, and while you're jawing, keep busy, or those two angels will chase you back to work quick! :)
God's Peace!
